The Electric Car Discount has proven successful in encouraging everyday Australians to switch to electric cars. Australia's National Automotive Leasing and Salary Packaging (NALSOA) show EVs account for 40% of all new novated leases.
What is the Electric Car Discount?
The Electric Car Discount was introduced by the Australian Government to help make electric cars affordable for everyday Australians by offering a Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption on electric and plug-in hybrid cars.
To be eligible for the exemption:
- Must be electric or PHEV vehicle.
- Valued below the luxury car tax threshold for fuel efficient vehicles ($89,332 for FY23/24).
- First made available for use on or after 1 July, 2022.
