Toyota have been at the forefront of adopting electric power in their vehicles. Their launch of the hybrid powered Prius in 1997 as the world’s first mass-produced hybrid passenger vehicle proved a massive success for the brand.

Over the past year, there has been a rapid uptake of electric vehicles. Consumers are demanding electric power and governments across the globe are encouraging their use over petrol cars.

In response, Toyota have revised their recently announced new vehicle ‘roadmap’ to introduce 10 electric cars within the next 3 years… including a ute due by the end of this year.

Other vehicles included in the new vehicle line-up include:

  1. A new compact car similar to the size of the Yaris and Corolla hatchbacks.
  2. A new seven-seat SUV

Toyota CEO, Koji Sato, has announced that the company aims to sell 3.5 million electric vehicles by 2030, and the 10 new EV releases will help achieve this.

From 2026 onwards, Toyota is launching a range of “next-generation” battery-electric vehicles with a claimed driving range double to what is currently available and completely new design. A special division within Toyota are currently working on these vehicles.

With an emphasis on sustainability, Toyota are also developing vehicles that use other “carbon-neutral” fuels, hydrogen, and hybrid power.

Toyota’s first fully electric vehicle in Australia, the BZ4X a mid-sized family SUV, is due in showrooms by the end of the year.
