Car brands are constantly trying to stand out from each other, one fun way they try to differentiate themselves is through their steering wheel designs. This has led to the design of many cool and crazy steering wheel designs!
Here is our round up of the top coolest designs over the years:
Ferrari F40 Steering WheelThe Ferrari F40 is an iconic supercar from the 1980s, and its steering wheel is equally iconic. It’s a small, thick-rimmed wheel with no buttons or switches, just a classic Ferrari prancing horse emblem in the center.
Lamborghini Huracan Performante Steering WheelThe Lamborghini Huracan Performante is a high-performance sports car with a steering wheel that looks like it belongs in a fighter jet! It has a squared-off shape and is covered in Alcantara material with bright red accents.
Mercedes-AMG GT R Steering Wheel
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is a sleek, powerful sportscar, and its steering wheel is just as impressive. It features a flat-bottomed wheel with a thick, contoured grip and a host of buttons and switches for controlling everything from the car’s suspension to its exhaust note. Plus, it has a distinctive yellow 12 o’clock marking to help drivers keep track of the wheel’s orientation during high-speed maneuvers.
Pagani Huayra Steering WheelThe Pagani Huayra is an exotic supercar known for its extreme performance and futuristic design. The car’s steering wheel is a work of art, featuring a mix of carbon fiber, aluminum, and leather with an array of buttons and switches that control everything from the car’s suspension to its transmission.
Rinspeed Oasis Steering WheelThe Rinspeed Oasis is a self-driving car concept that features a unique steering wheel design. The wheel is made from wood and can be removed from the dashboard and used as a portable device for controlling the car remotely. It also includes a large touchscreen display and can be rotated to face the passenger for entertainment purposes.
Not all designers hit the brief when it comes to steering wheel design though. As a bonus, we’ve found the ugliest or craziest steering wheels ever designed.
Ferrari F355
When thinking of Ferrari, images of luxury, elegance and sportiness come to mind. Ferrari has carefully and thoughtfully built this brand image from the first car designed by Enzo himself. It comes as a massive shock that a prancing horse could appear on this list. The Ferrari F355 shocked car buyers with it’s plain, boring and plastic steering wheel design. Disappointing by the brand to say the least.
Subaru Alcyone XTThe Subaru Alcyone XT was a 2-door coupe in production from 1985 to 1991. It was designed off Subaru’s policy for sensible quirkiness, that proved to be too much for most car buyers. It sold slowly which comes as no surprise when seeing its strange interior, in particular it’s steering wheel. The L-shaped design resembles a Baretta pistol, that comes across as plain ugly.
