Electric is the future for motoring, with a report funded by Jaguar claiming two thirds of Australians will have an electric car within the next 10 years. Every concept car released by car manufacturers recently have been electric based, think the Mercedes Benz VISION AVTR and Toyota Concept-1, proving that they envision a completely electric based future.

Here are our selects of the top electric cars expected to reach our shores this year.

Mazda MX-30

As Mazda’s first mass production electric car, the MX-30 is expected to arrive on Australian shores in mid-2021. The car is powered by a 107kW/271Nm electric motor with a 35.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack. In English, the small SUV is expected to have a 200km on a single charge. An exciting feature is the freestyle doors which open outwards from one another.

MG ZS EV

The MG ZS EV is proof that electric doesn’t always mean expensive. The MG electric vehicle is the most affordable of its kind available in Australia today. It’s up against some powerful rivals with its main competitors being the Hyundai Kona Elite and Nissan Leaf. Boasting a 263km real world driving range, coupled with its affordable price, it presents a great option for those wanting to get into EV ownership.

Mini Cooper SE

With its zippy acceleration and go-kart handling, the Mini Cooper SE is an affordable and fun electric option. It’s pitched as a city car with 180km real world driving range. An exciting feature included in this model is the ambient interior lighting with six different colours.

Hyundai Kona Electric

Two years after its Australian launch, the Hyundai Kona Electric has just undergone its midlife update. Expected to launch in the first half of this year, the refreshed model features new exterior and interior styling, and upgrades to the SmartSense safety suite. The range has also been improved at 484km real world driving range.

Audi RS e-Tron GT

As the first fully electric RS model for Audi, the Audi RS e-Tron GT is an exciting launch for the brand. The powerful motor claims to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds with a real-world driving range of 488km. Other features include the sustainable leather-free interiors. The first examples of this model are expected in showrooms in Q3 this year.
